We had the chance to visit Travel Resorts' Sycamore Lodge Resort in the sandhills region of central North Carolina for our stay, but they also have some truly excellent offerings with superb services that make all of their properties the some of the best places to camp in the US.

Our findings and feelings

Nestled on a beautifully manicured and landscaped location in North Carolina's Sandhills, Sycamore Lodge Resort is secluded enough that you'll feel the safety and security of this private resort, but still close enough to civilization and local attractions that you won't have to worry about getting what you need, when you need it, or having a shortage of things to do. On the other hand, we didn't feel the need to leave the resort at all! With so many amenities and activities, we actually had trouble finding enough time to experience all that this amazing location had to offer!

We got ourselves set up and were never more than a short walk from everything that Sycamore Lodge has to offer. The waterfront area was great and it was perfect weather to take out a paddle boat in the mid-morning; before the sun started beating down. The general store, stocked with goodies and smiling staff, was the place to go to grab some ice cream before we headed over to the pool; where we had the opportunity to talk to a few Travel Resorts of America members that have been RVing within their system of resorts for years. Probably the one thing that stuck with us the most from these conversations was how exceptional the level of service that these members received at every resort they'd been to. Although amenities varied between locations, these folks told us that when you're headed to a Travel Resorts property, you know what you're receiving: quality. Despite the initial membership cost, every person we talked to said that joining Travel Resorts was something that they  didn't regret and that they would gladly do it over again.

Another thing that jumped out at us was that these members said that Travel Resorts has always strived to make each and every one of their properties better; year after year. Whether it's expanding their power and sewer hookups, improving their WiFi services, booking quality entertainers for their legendary Saturday night dances and parties, or providing new and fun activities to guests of all ages; Travel Resorts has listed to their members and has taken their feedback and done something positive with it. That is not something that you hear too often and we were thrilled to hear it!

The remainder of our time at Sycamore Lodge Resort was spent enjoying everything that they had to offer. The adults-only lounge in their rustic, log cabin-esque lodge was a great retreat from the excitement going on out on the yard, where the activities staff was busy wearing the kids out. In the evening, live music at the pavilion drew us in like moths to the flame where we danced and sang along to some of our favorite songs played by a cover band. We didn't want to leave the next day, but all good things must come to an end. This time.

Our Rating:

Travel Resorts of America sets the standard, when it comes to private, membership camping. Although not for everyone, membership camping does bring with it a lot of positives. Safety, tranquility and quality of services and amenities are what set Travel Resorts apart from the rest and when you become a member, you know what you're getting and what to expect across all of their properties.

If you're seeking to make your RVing experiences more like a vacation than an unpredictable adventure, we totally recommend that you look into Travel Resorts of America.
