Stop and smell the best of Southern California’s wildflowers this Spring.
Shosone RV Park
22 CA-178 Shosone, CA 92384 (760) 852-4335
Road Trip: There’s something wildly spectacular about seeing flowers in the desert. How many you see at Death Valley National Park depends—of course—on the rain each winter, but from Shosone RV Park you’re in a prime position near Jubilee Pass, which is a wildflower hotspot. If by magic a super-bloom happens, hold on. Yellow desert gold, purple sand verbena, and their vibrant cousins will carpet the desert floor.

Antelope Valley RV Park
2551 Avenue G-8 Lancaster, CA 93536 (661) 206-0427
Road Trip: You don’t have to be a great lover of The Wizard of Oz to imagine the overpowering sight of the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve in Spring. (you’re not in Kansas anymore.) From mid-March to early May, poppies paint the valley in a dreamy red-orange-gold mosaic of warm color. Just be aware: Antelope Valley RV Park is closed the month of April for the California Poppy Festival.

Joshua Tree Lake, RV and Campground
2601 Sunfair Road Joshua Tree, CA 92252 (760) 366-1213
Road Trip: On the southbound route through Pinto Basin toward Cottonwood Springs in Joshua Tree National Park, you’ll see some absolutely stunning desert flowers: white and gold desert stars with wild magenta blossoms from beaver-tail cacti. Then there are the weird Mojave yucca blooms and the vaguely alien Joshua tree blossoms. Frankly, you just won’t see flowers like this anywhere else.

Riviera Mobile Home & RV Park
699 N Vulcan Avenue Encinitas, CA 92024 (760) 753-3333
Road Trip: The Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that cover the 55-acres of the Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch would be comical if they weren’t so beautiful. (These flowers are big.) You’ll have to buy tickets ($18 for adults) and schedule your time and date (early March through early May) to see them—but don’t hesitate. It’s an event of a lifetime. So make the most of it and dress up!
