Winnebago’s Electric Future

At the Florida RV SuperShow in January of this year, Winnebago made a bold (and dare we say 'shocking') announcement. Electric RVs have been teasing the market for some time, but Winnebago is now the first to introduce one so near to completion. Prepare for #VANLIFE to become #eVANLIFE.

The #eVANLIFE movement has arrived.

The RV world is changing quickly. Case in point: Winnebago's now in the final stage of field-testing their new all-electric RV prototype.

They're inviting journalists and everyday RVers to field-test a fleet of the camper van prototypes and provide real-world feedback to help shape the final product. And the production-ready eRV2 is already impressing prospects.

Meet the eRV2

There's much more to the eRV2 than its all-electric powertrain, but that's a good place to start.

The prototype is built on the Ford E-Transit™ chassis, which has a published range of 108* miles. (While that range is suitable for a pilot program, Winnebago is actively pursuing range-extension opportunities to incorporate into future versions.)

For the house electrical system, Winnebago partnered with Lithionics Battery® to create a proprietary IonBlade® lithium battery. The 48V system delivers more than 15,000 usable watt-hours — enough for up to seven days of boondocking when combined with the eRV2's 900-watt solar capacity.

The IonBlade is a unique lay-flat design that rides beneath the floor to maximize interior space, and meets the highest safety standards with UL safety certification No. 1973.

Focus on sustainability.

Recycled materials are used extensively throughout the eRV2 interior:

  • The Chilewich® flooring/removable floor mats are made from more than 19% recycled materials.
  • The Repreve® polyester yarn used in the WinnSleep® mattress system is made from 100% recycled water bottles and offers moisture wicking, cooling, and water repellent properties.
  • The PaperStone® wall accents around the windows are made from 100% recycled paper.
  • The cab seat coverings are made with renewable plant-based materials.
  • The acrylic countertops are made from biodegradable materials.

Unique broad color-spectrum lighting allows users to customize the interior lights from white to red, which helps to reduce light pollution and negative effects on native flora and fauna.

Maximizing comfort and convenience to meet the needs of modern users.

The eRV2 interior is inspired by modern Japandi principles, a fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian design that creates a clean, calm and multi-functional environment.

The interior features a five-in-one sleep/lounge, two adaptable workspaces with built-in charge points, and a high-speed Wi-Fi router for optimal data streaming.

Totally connected

The proprietary Winnebago Connect™ system allows users to easily monitor and control the electrical and energy management systems using a display inside the vehicle or an intuitive app.

This comprehensive new system is also smart. It automatically adapts to environmental changes based on settings and alerts users when something needs attention, so they can enjoy added peace of mind — along with more time to focus on what matters most.
